When I got involved with horses many years ago, I knew I wanted to do something to help the less fortunate ones, the ones nobody wanted or thought should be thrown away. When we finally bought our farm, I knew I would be able to fulfill this dream. I take in owner surrender horses as well as purchase horses from the kill pen at the Shipshewana horse auction.
Sunshine is the first horse I saved. I can't explain the feeling I got from buying this magnificent horse from the kill pen. She has turned out to be a wonderful mount and driving horse. We have an amazing connection. Sunshine will be with me until the end.
Blaze is was an owner surrender horse. He was covered in lice, malnourished and in desperate need of some training. He is now owned by a trainer who uses him for her barrel horse. He was placed Summer 2008
Kya was an owner surrender horse. She was too much for her owner to handle. She had anxiety issues. I sent her to my trainer who was able to correct her problems and turns out Kya was one of the sweetest horses ever! She was placed Summer 2008
Haley was an owner surrender horse. She was not used very much and her owner just wanted her to have a special owner. She went to my trainer for several months until the perfect owner found her. She was placed January 2009.
Lucky was purchased from the kill pen at the Shipshewana auction. I bought Lucky Winter 2007. He is such a special pony. He stayed here until February 2009 when I found the perfect owner for him. He went to my trainer for 30 days to learn the basic ground work then he'll be off to his new home after that.
Duke was an owner surrender horse. He is so beautiful and one of the nicest horses ever! He is so loving and gentle. One of my boarders is interested in Duke so he's staying here until she decides what she wants to do.
Big Poppa Shugs was purchased from the kill pen at the Shipshewana auction. He is an older Belgian gelding. I saw him and knew he had to come home with me! He is now owned by my friend Martha in Paw Paw, MI.
Prince was an owner surrender Mule. Prince is a one of a kind equine, so smart, loving and gentle. He was a joy to ride as well. He is now owned by a man who uses him for trail riding.
Winona came here with Prince. She's so beautiful and friendly. My 15 year old son fell in love with her so we decided to keep her for him. He has shown her, trail rides with her and she tries really hard for him. They are a great team!
Flurry was an owner surrender miniature horse. He stayed here for almost a year. He was a joy to have around. He found a new owner in a 12 year old girl who always wanted a miniature horse.
Flurry was purchased from the kill pen at the Shipshewana auction. He went through with three other ponies. Nobody wanted them so the auctioneer offered them for $30 each. I brought Flurry home. His hooves were so long that they curled up like elves shoes! He now resides with Wendy W. in Sunfield, MI where he's happy and well taken care of.
Abby was an owner surrender horse. My boarder, Wendy fell in love with her and is now her owner. They trail ride together and make a great team. Abby is boarded here at the farm.
Belle was purchased from a horse dealer. She stayed here for over a year until I sold her to a woman in Scotts.
Red and Emma are two special horses. I received a call from their owner who stated he could no longer care for them. I agreed to go look at them and quickly realized that they needed food, water and medical attention. I could not bring them to my farm due to their condition. Using my horse forum, I found an exceptional young woman who agreed to take both horses. She has gotten them the medical attention they needed plus food and water. Donations are being made by members of the forum for supplies and money. I was able to place them in 48 hours of being contacted by the owner. Emma is 12 years old and the mother to Red, who is 6 years old. They have never been apart.
Kit and Kate are two POA's I picked up in October 2009. Their owner was no longer able to care for them due to financial strain. I agree to take them in. They are full sisters and the cutest ponies ever. Kate went to my friend Martha who is caring for her. Kate is being ridden at Martha's farm as well as in organized fun nights at Willow Tree Equestrian Center. Kit is being evaluated and will be available for adoption Nov 2009.
